What do we love about each other?
May 2, 2010, 9:32 am
Denise:
When I left Australia, my mum’s parting words were “Don’t fall in love with an Englishman and never come home.” Sorry mum…but I had to cross the whole world to find the perfect guy for me.
I met Mark when I was speaking at a conference and my first impression was of a cheeky little bugger! He was very confident and loud, but little did I suspect that underneath was an incredibly romantic and sensitive guy.
We became closer friends and his obvious puppy crush eventually wore me down until I ended up asking him out! It was the best decision I ever made, before someone else realised his potential and snapped him up!
I love Mark because he’s so incredibly supportive. He really “gets” me, and I know he will do anything in his power to make me happy. He’s very romantic too. Every special occasion he writes me a silly and funny poem and takes me on surprise trips and dinners.
Our engagement weekend was perfectly planned, with the perfect antique ring. I know he put a lot of effort into making it memorable and special including buying me an entirely new outfit (jewellery, shoes and all!), and that’s another reason why I love him – he’s just so attentive and caring to me.
He’s responsible, caring, does all my laundry, cooks for me, and is never too tired for a game of Scrabble. He really is the perfect husband and he deserves a medal for putting up with such a messy wife!
I agreed to marry Mark because I know he’ll be a fantastic father one day, and a wonderful role model for our future children and grand-children. Together we can leave a legacy to future generations.
He’s the man that I always dreamed that I’d marry and I can’t wait to share this next adventure with him.

Having just arrived from Australia, Denise was preparing to work for the international exchange organization AIESEC and was looking for adventure. I had just started university when we met at a conference and straight away there was a spark. As members of AIESEC we worked together and joked about getting rich, travelling around the world and getting married and quickly we grew close.
We got together in August 2003, I fell head over heels straight away and for the next two years we commuted back and forth between Manchester, London and Sydney while I finished university.
When I first met Denise I was attracted by her verve, energy and sense of humour. I fell in love with Denise’s dynamism, she is a woman with drive and ideas and is always working to make things happen and find new experiences for us to enjoy. Denise is strong willed with an unstoppable imagination and she loves to dream and plan the wonderful life we will have together.
I love Denise because she is ambitious, she is passionate about personal development and her creativity means she is never afraid to try new things and think differently. It also means she is tenacious and will work hard and do whatever it takes to help us realise our dreams. She is my partner in crime!
Denise is the perfect wife for me because we share the same dreams, the same ambition and because she supports me to learn and grow. As Denise’s partner I have learnt and developed so much personally and professionally and I love that we are so committed to creating our dream life together.
We have so much fun together, Denise is a beautiful, wonderful and kind person, she even lets me watch football! Denise is my best friend.
Watch our slide show and see how much we've changed together over the years. Some people say we even look like brother and sister - GROSS!
